A Kids Grow Tub (£9.99) by Sunshine Garden Products is a great Easter present for children from 5 to 11. The set includes a groovy coloured tub and drip tray, a peat-free coir brick and feed stick to make a growing media, a packet of seeds (see below for the varieties), a bottle top watering rose, plant labels, a magnifying glass, colouring pencils and an activity sheet with fun ideas. Also the sleeve has a great cartoon story about BOTO the minature alien who can't grow things on his planet. Jim and Zoe show Boto what is needed to grow things. With the story is a competition with the winners receiving a BOTO T shirt.

Blue tubs have Dwarf Sunflower seeds, Red tubs Compact Nasturtium, and Green tubs have Baby Carrots. They are really easy to grow, completely safe, and there are lots of activities to do with the 'Activity Sheet'. All learning but great fun at the same time.

Spring is in the air

But no matter, the garden is slowly waking up and signs of life are everywhere

Now is an ideal time to mulch with 'Sunshine of Africa' Cocoa Shell. Cocoa shell is the best mulch on the market by a long way. Putting bark on your garden is a horticultural no no - it robs the soil of vital nitrogen, and often bleaches in the sun making your beds look unsightly. COCOA SHELL has loads of nitrogen within it to allow the composting process to take place and actually adds nitrogen to the soil, as well as lots of other good nutrients. As an added bonus, once watered in the Him 'upstairs' or yourself, the COCOA SHELLS bind together to form a loosely knitted porous mat. This mat is really good at preventing weeds from groing. It also reduces water evaporation in times of drought - not a problem we in the UK generally come across.
